Kazakhstan International News Agency report: On the 29th, the mayor of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek, stated that there are plans to extend the light rail line to Kostanay City.
The mayor said that about 15,000 to 20,000 cars enter and exit Astana from Kostanay City every day. Therefore, the next phase of the light rail construction plan will proceed in this direction.
According to him, the engineering project to Kostanay City is planned to be completed within one and a half years.
Kassymbek said that another branch of the light rail line will extend along Shakhanaq Street to Turan Street, then through the old city area to the train station.
Previously reported, the Astana light rail system began trial operation on September 29.
