The booming China-Kazakhstan cooperation in the heart of Asia: The construction of the Astana light rail, built by China, is nearing completion, and the station naming plan has been submitted to Maslikhat for approval
Kazakh International News Agency - The issue of naming the stations on the Astana city light rail line has been put on the agenda. Sakhen Yesrkep, head of the Department of Language Development and Archives of the city, made relevant announcements at the 40th special meeting of the Maslikhat (local council).
"The construction of the Astana city light rail line is entering the final stage, with a total of 18 stations planned. According to current laws, each station must be named. Since the beginning of this year, we have organized a series of meetings, inviting intellectuals, historians, toponymy experts, Maslikhat deputies, and officials from relevant departments to discuss and propose various suggestions for station names," Yesrkep introduced.
According to him, according to international practice, the naming of metro or light rail stations is usually associated with important landmarks in the area, so that residents and tourists can better identify directions.
"We think this experience is worth learning from, because it allows residents to quickly find their destination, and also helps them choose their travel routes," he said.
