China-Kazakhstan Cooperation in the Heart of Asia: Chinese and Kazakh Experts Jointly Promote Implementation of Nur-Sultan Light Rail Project

Kazakhstan International News Agency - According to a press office of City Transportation Systems (CTS), the Nur-Sultan Light Rail Transit (LRT) project has introduced an international expert team and has officially started implementation work.

CTS Company has cooperated with China's Tianjin Rail Transit Co., Ltd. (TRT) to establish a specialized department responsible for starting the light rail system. TRT is one of the leading operators in the field of urban rail transit systems in China.

Under the project framework, TRT has dispatched a team of 16 high-quality experts to Nur-Sultan to carry out long-term cooperation with CTS's 12 local experts.

The main tasks of this department include:

- Developing specifications and technical documents;

- Selecting and training local service personnel in Kazakhstan;

- Ensuring smooth trial operation of the light rail system;

- Providing continuous support after the system is officially put into use.

Nikolai Andriepov, head of the CTS Company's LRT launch department, said:

"The light rail project is an important milestone in the development of Nur-Sultan's transportation infrastructure. This project will introduce advanced solutions to improve urban transportation convenience. The launch department composed of international partners not only accelerates the commissioning of the system but also ensures its stable and safe operation in the future."

According to previous reports, the important infrastructure of the light rail transit system (LRT) in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, - the depot, has completed 50% of its construction.

The light rail transit system (LRT) in the capital has a total length of 22.4 kilometers and 18 stations. It is planned to put 19 trains into operation, each of which can carry 652 passengers, with train intervals of 4 to 5 minutes. The expected daily passenger flow at the initial stage is 250,000 people, reaching up to 920,000 people. Payment methods will be the same as the existing urban public transport system, with passengers able to use transportation cards or QR codes for payment.

All construction work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, after which the light rail will be officially put into operation.
