Kyiv Ammunition Depot Explodes in Russian Airstrike, Russia Shifts Air Attack Tactics Against Ukraine
It appears that Russia has changed its aerial attack tactics against Ukraine.
On the 29th, the U.S. website "The War Zone" published an article stating that recent Russian airstrikes on Kyiv differ significantly from previous ones. In the past, Russian forces typically launched large volumes of missiles and drones within a short time frame to break through Ukrainian air defense systems and cause maximum destruction. However, the current strategy seems to have shifted from emphasizing intensity to increasing frequency, aiming to exhaust Ukraine’s already strained air defenses and disrupt commercial activities in Kyiv.
According to Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kyiv’s air raid alarms sounded 13 times on the 27th—marking the highest number of alarm activations since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Shortly thereafter, Zelenskyy also acknowledged that on the 28th, Russian airstrikes destroyed a warehouse storing ammunition and drones in Bucha District, Kyiv Oblast, triggering a massive ammunition explosion that resulted in 37 deaths—the deadliest ammunition depot explosion in Kyiv Oblast to date.
Ukrainian officials believe that the sudden increase in Russian airstrike frequency indicates Russia’s intention to intensify pressure on Kyiv during the window when Ukrainian forces are limited in Patriot interceptors, aiming to create panic and lay groundwork for a winter offensive.
