China-Kazakhstan Cooperation: The Kazakh Government Establishes the "Khorgos-East Gate" Special Economic Zone, Creating a New Engine for Transportation, Logistics and Industrial Cooperation
(Kazakh International News Agency) According to a relevant resolution passed by the Kazakh government on July 1, the "Khorgos-East Gate" special economic zone was officially established, and its charter and main development goals were also approved.

According to the resolution document, the special economic zone is located in Jetysu region, with a total planned area of 5,431.5 hectares. Among them, the port area (air hub) covers 840 hectares, the logistics area covers 483.4 hectares, and the industrial area covers 230.4 hectares.
The core purpose of establishing the special economic zone is to promote the development of modern industries, attract domestic and foreign investment, introduce advanced technologies, build efficient transportation, logistics and industrial clusters, and at the same time promote in-depth cooperation in border areas.
According to the set development goals, by 2030, the cumulative investment attracted within the special economic zone should reach 522.7 billion tenge, and it is expected to increase to 715.5 billion tenge by 2035. Among them, foreign investment is expected to reach 10.2 billion tenge by 2030, and rise to 15.5 billion tenge by 2035.
In terms of the number of enterprises, it is expected that 85 enterprises will be settled in the special economic zone by 2030, and increase to 95 by 2035. The number of jobs is expected to reach 20,500 by 2030, and grow to 22,000 by 2035.
Additionally, the local content ratio of production projects within the special economic zone will steadily increase, aiming for 75% by 2030, and reaching 85% by 2035.
The government's resolution also clearly stipulates the institutional arrangements and implementation conditions for the legal, tax and customs supervision systems within the "Khorgos-East Gate" special economic zone.
According to previous reports, in the first five months of this year, Kazakhstan continued to maintain its position as one of the three major trade partners of Uzbekistan.
