China-Kazakhstan Cooperation: Shanghai and Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan, Establish Sister City Relations; Direct Flights to Launch in July
(Reported by Kazakh International News Agency) According to People's Daily Online, during the "Central Asia-China" Summit, Shanghai, China, and Almaty, Kazakhstan, officially signed an agreement to establish sister city relations, becoming cooperative cities of friendship.
This agreement has been included in the list of summit outcomes and announced to the public. As arranged, direct flights between the two cities will be launched in July this year.
Reports indicate that so far, the number of friendly cities between China and Central Asian countries has exceeded 100 pairs. This cooperation mechanism is continuously expanding into multiple fields such as culture, trade, and education.
Meanwhile, according to the latest data from China's General Administration of Customs, in the first five months of 2025, the total trade volume between China and the five Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) increased by 10% year-on-year, reaching $39.8 billion, setting a new historical record.
