Mongolia will use the Korean government's 5.6 million U.S. dollars in grant aid to improve customs supervision capabilities
Montsame, Ulaanbaatar, February 6th - According to the General Administration of Customs, the launch ceremony of the "Enhancing the Risk Management Capacity of Mongolian Customs Institutions and Air Passenger Carry-on Baggage Customs Supervision Project" was held on February 5th at the General Administration of Customs of Mongolia, under the cooperation framework of the General Administration of Customs of Mongolia, the Korean government, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
At the launch ceremony, Ambassador Choi Jin-won of South Korea to Mongolia, Representative Cho Hyeong-ran (音译) of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Mongolia, Deputy Minister of Finance Batuul Khulan, Director General of the General Administration of Customs of Mongolia, Punsukh Delgernaran, as well as representatives from relevant ministries, agencies, and project implementation units attended the event.
The project will be implemented from 2025 to 2028, with a total grant aid of 5.6 million U.S. dollars provided by the Korean government. The project aims to develop customs risk management and database systems, introduce decision-making mechanisms based on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data, provide necessary equipment required for customs inspections, and comprehensively enhance the professional capabilities and business level of customs staff.
Within the framework of the project, a series of comprehensive measures will be implemented, including updating risk management and database systems, using modern technological means to enhance the customs supervision of air passenger carry-on baggage, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of customs inspections, and strengthening the knowledge and skills of customs personnel.
This project is a vivid embodiment of the long-term friendly relations between Mongolia and South Korea, as well as the continuous deepening of political and economic cooperation between the two countries. It will effectively promote the development of Mongolia's foreign trade, increase fiscal revenue, and make a substantial contribution to national economic growth and customs system modernization reform.
