The State of Mongolia Proposes to Open a Third Coal Export Route

Montsame, Ulaanbaatar, February 2nd - According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the Minister of Economic Development, Z. Enkhbayar, met with members of the Fiscal Stability Council on January 30th. At the beginning of the meeting, Lu. Enkhamgalang, Director of the Department of Macroeconomic Policy at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, introduced the implementation of the 2025 budget and the macroeconomic situation.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Z. Enkhbayar emphasized that in recent years, the value of cashmere exports reached 404 million US dollars, and meat exports reached 345 million US dollars. If cashmere is fully utilized and put into circulation, the economy has the potential to benefit by several billion US dollars, and attention should also be paid to policies related to gold and copper.

In the meeting, Lu. Ganganle, member of the Fiscal Stability Council, stated that although coal prices have declined, we should still take advantage of the high copper prices. In addition, it is necessary to formulate policies to improve the legal environment and attract foreign investment without causing difficulties for the budget, and proposed to open a third coal export route.

N. Enkhbayar, Chairman of the Fiscal Stability Council, emphasized that it is necessary to review the planning of various departments and infrastructure development plans, and to strengthen coordination. For example, if the infrastructure development plan for the Gobi region is not updated, private enterprises will face the risk of energy shortages and losses.

Additionally, the "fragmentation" of the geopolitical economy is expected to bring challenges in the coming years, and the economic situation is expected to be relatively severe.

Therefore, in the face of global climate change risks, it is necessary to focus on enhancing economic resilience, reducing dependence on foreign trade and export volumes for a country, and to thoroughly study factors such as border crossing operations, electricity imports, and fuel supply.
