Ukraine Proposes Energy Ceasefire, but Does the U.S. Believe Russia Will Comply?

Ukrainian negotiators are set to hold online talks with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner

On October 12, Ukraine Context reported that Ukraine’s negotiating team will soon hold virtual discussions with U.S. President’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The Ukrainian side will present clear and direct evidence demonstrating Russia’s violation of the “energy ceasefire” announced by Trump: “If Russia continues its attacks, Ukraine will be compelled to respond in kind.”

Previously, Zelenskyy stated that shortly after Trump issued his declaration on an energy ceasefire, Russian forces targeted a power station in Kharkiv. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s support for the concept of an energy ceasefire but stressed that Moscow must demonstrate through actions its willingness to abide by the agreement. He also warned that if Russia refuses to honor the ceasefire, Ukraine will retaliate against the aggressor.
