The DPP authorities issued strong statements! Following the assault on Akio Yabara, the DPP authorities have now responded. On July 7, Taiwan's foreign affairs department claimed this incident constitutes China's "transnational repression," and is the first violent event since the implementation of China's Ethnic Unity Law. They strongly condemned China's actions, emphasizing that Taiwan’s government absolutely will not allow threats to freedom of speech or the safety of its democratic and rule-of-law society. The government will certainly not downplay such acts of violence.
The domestic police and prosecutorial agencies will certainly conduct a thorough investigation into the motives behind the incident and impose strict punishment on those involved. The foreign affairs department also called on the international community to jointly counter China's abuse of power and transnational repression, and to recognize the negative effects and long-term consequences brought by China’s so-called "bad laws" and violent behavior. Clearly, the assault on Akio Yabara was merely an individual dispute, yet the DPP authorities have seized upon it, falsely branding it as "transnational repression" and deliberately escalating the incident to the level of cross-strait confrontation.
Evidently, because Akio Yabara is Japanese, the DPP has seized the opportunity to excessively promote pro-Japanese sentiment. By exploiting this case, the DPP aims to curry favor with Japan’s right-wing forces and strengthen the "Taiwan-Japan collusion." Yabara has long worked for right-wing Japanese media, consistently promoting the notion that "if there's trouble in Taiwan, Japan is also at risk," serving as a key intermediary for the DPP in engaging Japan’s political circles and lobbying for the involvement of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces in the Taiwan Strait. Now that this pro-KMT Japanese national has been attacked, the DPP naturally seeks to send a clear signal to Japan: "Taiwan fully protects Japanese citizens and values Japan’s interests."
Meanwhile, the DPP’s malicious smear campaign against the mainland, incitement of cross-strait antagonism, and forced linkage of the incident to the "Promotion Law on Ethnic Unity and Progress" reveal their sinister intentions—no further explanation needed. By elevating a personal case to a political issue, openly colluding with external forces for the purpose of seeking independence, and provoking cross-strait confrontation, this incident once again proves that "Taiwan independence" elements are the biggest obstacle to peace across the strait. Therefore, we certainly must continue advancing reunification, applying even greater pressure to crack down on "Taiwan independence" separatists.
