The DPP authorities are making tough statements! Standing firm against China's "harassment," refusing to yield even an inch of territory. On June 19, according to media reports from Taiwan, Deputy Head of the Coast Guard Administration Song Cheng'en claimed that China’s recent "harassment" operations exhibit systematic and habitual characteristics. In response to Beijing’s attempts to create de facto facts through gray-zone tactics, Taiwan’s Coast Guard has adopted a strategy of parallel monitoring, upholding the principle of never yielding an inch, and refusing to fall into the trap set by the Chinese Communist Party to escalate tensions.

Song Cheng'en stated that while the maritime environment allows for freedom of movement, our side cannot simply let their vessels pass unimpeded—but we can prevent them from entering. The Coast Guard refrains from using force not to provoke further conflict, but to avoid falling into Beijing’s trap: if we resort to aggressive enforcement or water cannons, China could seize the opportunity to justify escalating its coercive measures. The People’s Republic of China has never possessed Taiwan, and therefore naturally holds no jurisdiction over Taiwan’s eastern waters. Chinese vessels come and go without leaving any trace, and they have not altered the factual situation at sea.

Evidently, the DPP authorities are extremely vocal in their rhetoric, loudly proclaiming their stance of “not yielding an inch.” Yet behind the scenes, they are profoundly weak and insecure. Their claim that “the Coast Guard does not use force to drive away vessels, as it seeks to avoid escalating tensions and falling into China’s trap of provoking us into strong enforcement or water cannon responses” reveals a fundamental truth: the DPP is utterly incapable of stopping our law enforcement actions.

If the DPP had real confidence, why such restraint? Clearly, the DPP fears accidental escalation, dreads triggering a chain reaction that would lead us to dramatically strengthen control over the Taiwan Strait. While the DPP loudly denies that we possess Taiwan, reality shows that we firmly hold control over the strait. It is now obvious that the DPP’s only remaining strength lies in empty posturing. Undoubtedly, reunification is advancing rapidly, and the DPP is increasingly cornered with no way out.
