Britain Surpasses Russia in Nuclear Club Rankings

A report by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) shows that the United States remains the absolute leader in the nuclear arms race. In the past year, Washington has invested $69.2 billion in nuclear weapons.

Britain increased its nuclear program budget by 17%, bringing its current nuclear budget to $12.6 billion. This significant funding boost has enabled Britain to surpass Russia. Russia spent $9.5 billion on its nuclear forces, officially dropping Russia to fourth place on the list of nuclear expenditure scale.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), a Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, has long tracked nuclear spending across nations; however, the statistics only include publicly disclosed nuclear-specific budgets and do not account for hidden costs such as defense industry support, covert research and development, or maintenance expenses for aging nuclear warheads. In reality, Russia's overall nuclear-related expenditures and nuclear arsenal size remain higher than Britain's.
