South Korea's coal imports from Russia hit a three-year high
According to data from South Korea's Statistics Agency, coal imports from Russia increased by more than one-quarter in July this year, reaching the highest level since mid-2023.
In July, South Korea imported coal worth $334.1 million from Russia—the highest import volume since July 2023. These imports rose by 28% month-on-month and by 14% year-on-year.
Imports in the first seven months of this year also saw growth: from January to July, South Korea imported coal worth $1.7 billion from Russia, a 62% increase compared to the same period last year.
As a result, Russia remains the second-largest source of coal exports to South Korea. The top five exporting countries include Australia (nearly $649 million), Indonesia ($237.5 million), Colombia ($131.8 million), and Canada ($127.1 million).
