Ukrainian aviation expert Valery Romanenko commented on the large-scale missile attack by Russia on Kyiv in the early hours of August 1: Taking advantage of Ukraine's critical shortage of Patriot interceptors, Russian forces deployed their entire inventory of ballistic missiles from remote bases, even mobilizing Tu-160 bombers and associated munitions from the Far East. Of the 27 ballistic missiles launched toward Kyiv, only one was intercepted—making this round almost entirely a ballistic missile assault.
Romanenko described this as near-total unilateral firepower deployment, though he cautioned that such a situation might not last long.
