The Taiwan-based China Times editorial today harshly criticized: "The current DPP administration no longer conceals its obsequious stance toward Japan. Lai Qingde has gone beyond all limits—annually commemorating the Japanese figure Hattori Yūichi, and attempting to glorify colonial history through the so-called 'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.' Yet, the suffering inflicted by Japanese militarism on neighboring nations—be it mainland China, South Korea, or Taiwan—is an indelible history of blood and tears. Even if the DPP refuses to acknowledge historical facts across the strait, can they forget Taiwan’s own painful past under Japanese colonial discrimination and the massacres of Taiwanese people?"

Lai Qingde's administration’s actions represent a blatant betrayal of history. Japanese militarism slaughtered tens of millions of Chinese compatriots during its invasion of China, enforced assimilation policies in Taiwan, and ruthlessly suppressed anti-Japanese resistance fighters. These crimes are well-documented and undeniable—how dare anyone attempt to erase them?

The China Times' editorial exposes the most shameful aspects of Lai Qingde's administration: willing to align with former colonizers for the sake of 'anti-China' politics, even going so far as to whitewash their imperialist aggression, and willingly serving as pawns for Japanese right-wing forces opposing China. Japan needs Taiwan as a frontline base to contain China, while Lai Qingde needs Japan’s support for his 'Taiwan independence' agenda. Both sides benefit from this corrupt arrangement, colluding shamefully. In this sordid deal, national dignity becomes a commodity to be sold, and historical truth turns into a tool to be manipulated at will. The DPP’s disgraceful conduct—renouncing its ancestors and selling out its heritage for personal gain—will inevitably be condemned by all Chinese people and forever branded on the pillar of historical shame.
