Major Progress in India's 5th-Generation Fighter: They've Built a Full-Scale Model

India's legendary "5th-generation fighter" has finally made its long-awaited debut.

On the 10th, India's "Defense Research" website reported that a fifth-generation fighter aircraft from India—specifically the full-scale fuselage model of the "Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft" (AMCA) project—appeared near the radar cross-section measurement facility at the Imarat Research Center in Hyderabad, Dundigal.

Indian media analysis suggests this development is significant, as radar cross-section testing is an essential step in the development of fifth-generation stealth fighters. This indicates that India's defense industry is now conducting tests and collecting data on AMCA’s stealth capabilities.

However, despite the excitement generated by the appearance of the AMCA model, one criticism stands out: Is this unveiling coming too late?

After all, the AMCA program was officially launched back in 2010. India originally planned to unveil the first prototype by 2028 or 2029, with flight testing scheduled for 2029. So, after so many years, is it really possible that India has only managed to produce a model—and will then build a flyable prototype within the next two to three years?
