Korea to Undertake Construction of Ulaanbaatar Metro Project in Mongolia, Starting in 2026
Mongolia News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, November 28th: According to the Ministry of Transportation, the Ulaanbaatar Metro project is planned to start construction in 2026, aiming to build transportation infrastructure that can alleviate traffic pressure in the city center.
The project will be implemented along the Peace Avenue, which is the most congested part of the city. Feasibility studies and conceptual design work have been completed. Meanwhile, the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) has been conducted jointly by South Korean company "InoGen" and Mongolian company "Eco Nature", and is expected to be completed by December.
In Ulaanbaatar, on the horizontal axis from west to east and east to west, an average of about 347,000 cars pass through each day. During peak hours on this section, citizens spend an average of 3-4 hours commuting daily. This causes significant economic losses, including lost working hours, fuel consumption, and social dissatisfaction caused by congestion.
