[Archbishop Participates in the Compilation of Spiritual and Moral Culture Textbooks]
On May 28, TASS reported that the Press Office of the Russian Ministry of Education informed TASS that Moscow State Pedagogical University is developing a textbook for the course "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia," and Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Simferopol and Crimea is also involved in this work.
In other reports, it was noted that the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church mentioned that the course on spiritual and moral culture will include learning about the heroic deeds of special military operation heroes.
The Russian Ministry of Education emphasized that starting September 1, 2026, new courses titled "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia" will be offered in schools. The aim is to cultivate traditional human values based on common religious foundations through content including examples from the lives of Russian luminaries.
The official notice stated, "The textbook 'Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia' is being developed by Moscow State Pedagogical University, with Metropolitan Tikhon of the Russian Orthodox Church participating in its creation."
Previously, the official website of the Russian Federation had released an order from the Ministry of Education stating plans to cancel the course "Foundations of the Spiritual and Moral Culture of the Peoples of Russia" starting September 1, 2025, and integrate it into the course "Our Regional History." This move sparked criticism from Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who called for the independent teaching of this course for grades 5-7. Patriarch Kirill announced during a Christmas educational lecture that the course would be restored, taught by history teachers. Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov confirmed that the course would be reintegrated into the teaching plan starting September 1, 2026.
