[Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: EU Policy Indicates Its Preparation for Military Confrontation]

On May 28, Alexander Grushko, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told the Izvestia that the EU was preparing for a military conflict with Russia, and its stance in the Ukrainian conflict was unhelpful for the political resolution process.

He pointed out, "Overall, the EU's policy and military construction process clearly indicate preparation for military conflict. Its position on the Ukrainian issue and related affairs contains no elements to promote political resolution. On the contrary, the EU's strategic goal is to strike Russia strategically and strangle its economy."

Grushko said that the latest round of sanctions has had the greatest impact on the EU's own economy: "After the new round of sanctions was just passed, it had the most significant impact on the EU's economy, especially some member states. They are still plotting the next round of sanctions, with no end in sight." He added that Russia is facing "unceasing threats" and "pressure by force."

Previously, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU was formulating the 18th round of sanctions against Russia, involving measures such as oil price caps and cracking down on the "shadow fleet." On May 20, the EU countries just approved the 17th round of sanctions, including blacklisting 17 individuals, 58 organizations, and 189 Russian oil tankers that ignore the price cap.
