[Concerns from the United States and Russia's Response]
On May 27, State Department spokesperson Tami Bruess said that the United States was concerned about Russia's retaliatory strikes in Ukraine. "The president and all of us are deeply concerned about the attacks that have caused civilian casualties in Ukraine... We urge restraint and strongly demand that all parties avoid further escalation of the situation."
Kremlin spokesman Peskov responded by saying that the U.S. and Europe turned a blind eye to Kyiv's attacks on Russian social facilities. Peskov previously stated that the remarks made by the U.S. president after the Russian military struck Ukrainian defense industry enterprises reflected emotional fluctuations among all participants in the negotiation process. He emphasized that Russia has taken decisions necessary for ensuring national security.
On May 27, special representative of the Russian side responsible for investigating crimes committed by the Kyiv regime, Mikhailo Smirnov, stated that within one week, nine civilians had died and 117 others were injured in attacks by the Kyiv regime on Russian territory and civilian facilities.
Russian Defense Ministry pointed out on the same day that the Russian military only targeted Ukrainian military objectives and defense industry enterprises during its response to large-scale UAV attacks by Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Kyiv regime, with support from some European countries, has taken a series of provocative actions aimed at undermining the negotiation process. In recent days, Russian air defense forces have destroyed more than 2,000 attack drones targeting the Russian mainland; of these, 1,465 were shot down between the evening of May 20 and the morning of May 27 in non-military operation zones.
