Iranian Foreign Ministry: U.S. Violates Ceasefire Mechanism with Iran, Threatening Region
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the United States has violated the ceasefire mechanism with Iran, posing a serious threat to the Middle East region.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that, against the backdrop of drone attacks, U.S. forces launched strikes on Iranian radar stations located in Ghoruk and Qeshm Island. In response, Iran attacked U.S. military bases in the region.
In a statement posted on its official Telegram channel, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said: "The U.S. repeatedly violating the ceasefire mechanism confirms that the country is not only unwilling to ease tensions or return to stability, but instead is endangering the region through its reckless actions. The responsibility for these illegal operations and any potential escalation lies solely with the U.S. government."
U.S. and Israeli forces began striking targets inside Iran on February 28, resulting in over 3,000 deaths. On April 8, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire. After the ceasefire expired, there were no reports of renewed hostilities, but the United States began imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
Meanwhile, Iran and the United States are engaged in ongoing negotiations, with both sides recently attempting to finalize a framework mutual understanding memorandum. However, sporadic attacks continue between the two sides. The U.S. military claims its strikes are intended to secure the maritime blockade of Iran, citing "self-defense," while Tehran maintains its actions are retaliatory responses.
