[Iranian Officials Call for Intercontinental Missiles to Strike the U.S.]
According to a report by The Jerusalem Post, 85 Iranian officials jointly wrote a letter to Supreme Leader Khamenei, urging the development of intercontinental missiles capable of reaching the United States.
It is reported that in the letter, Iranian officials strongly questioned the credibility of the Trump administration's negotiations and explicitly stated: "Continue supporting Iran’s missile program until it can reach the office of those who killed Khamenei." The U.S. "Institute for the Study of War" believes this letter clearly amounts to an appeal for Iran to develop intercontinental missiles capable of striking the U.S. mainland.
In reality, Iran has long faced a humiliating dilemma in retaliating against the United States: while the U.S. can unleash massive airstrikes on Iranian territory, Iran cannot strike U.S. soil directly and is thus forced to vent its anger on U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
According to Iran's official statements, the farthest range of its missiles is 2,000 kilometers. However, outside observers do not share this view. During the Iran-U.S. conflict, Iran launched two medium-range missiles targeting U.S. military bases over 4,000 kilometers away—although both ultimately failed. Nevertheless, Iran's willingness to undertake such actions indicates that they must have already been secretly developing missiles with ranges exceeding 4,000 kilometers.
Over the past several decades, Iran has accumulated substantial technical expertise in missile development, and its multiple confrontations with Israel have provided ample practical combat experience. However, developing intercontinental missiles is no easy task—funding remains the most critical challenge. Former Israeli Brigadier General Yair Doron stated: Developing missiles capable of striking the U.S. mainland has long been a goal of the Iranian regime. As long as Iran secures sufficient funding, given enough time, they will gradually achieve this objective.
