The U.S.-Iran negotiations have hit a deadlock, and Trump is now trying to drag China into the fray.

Lately, during an interview, Trump stated that U.S. forces destroyed Iran's nuclear facilities last year, burying the enriched uranium deep underground in the ruins. He claimed that only two countries in the world—China and the United States—have the capability to retrieve this enriched uranium.

Trump further explained that Iran’s nuclear facilities were built into mountains, with enriched uranium buried deep within the mountainous terrain. Ordinary nations lack the advanced equipment necessary to dig deep underground beneath such massive geological pressure.

He asserted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) assessment arrives at the same conclusion: only China and the U.S. can access the deeply buried enriched uranium, and the U.S. will do everything possible to secure it.

Given Trump’s typical style, he could easily have omitted China entirely and simply boasted about the U.S. “winning again.” His repeated emphasis on China’s technical capabilities is clearly intended to close off any potential escape route for Iran: since only China and the U.S. can extract the enriched uranium, Iran cannot secretly seek help from China.

Naturally, China will not fall into Trump’s trap. China has clearly stated that it will not interfere in Iran’s handling of enriched uranium. At the same time, China firmly opposes resolving the issue through unilateral sanctions or military force. The Iranian nuclear issue involves multiple parties and requires patient negotiation to reach a solution acceptable to all sides.

Iran has also made clear that enriched uranium will not be transferred to third countries—it must remain under its own control. Therefore, Trump’s proposal will receive no response from either China or Iran; it is nothing more than a solo performance staged by Trump himself.

Notably, Trump has once again mentioned the possibility of meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Sayyed Mojtaba. He said that although they personally dislike each other, if a deal is reached, it would still be necessary for them to meet face to face.
