President of Kazakhstan: The United States imports about 24% of uranium from Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan International News Agency - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, during a roundtable meeting in New York with major U.S. business representatives, pointed out that the United States imports about 24% of its uranium from Kazakhstan.
President Tokayev stated in his speech that further exploration of geological exploration and opportunities for expanding existing projects is needed, especially in the uranium mining and processing sector.
Kazakhstan meets about 40% of the global uranium market demand, while the United States imports about 24% of uranium from it.
"According to the United States' energy priorities, we provide clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly energy solutions based on coal. Over 70% of Kazakhstan's electricity comes from coal. As one of the countries with abundant coal reserves, we regard it as a reliable and safe source of energy, at least in the near term, we will not give it up. Our energy strategy is based on four pillars: oil, natural gas, coal, and uranium, and we will resolutely adhere to this principle," he said.
The president also pointed out that the development of key raw materials is a priority direction and reminded the participants that Kazakhstan has rich copper, tungsten, lead, zinc, lithium, graphite, and other mineral resources required for high technology.
"We have created a favorable environment for mining industry investors based on a transparent and well-established legal framework. Currently, large companies such as Ivanhoe, Rio Tinto, Anglo Teck, and Fortescue have entered the mining industry in Kazakhstan," he said.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan previously signed a cooperation agreement worth $4.2 billion with the U.S. company Wabtec, which includes supplying 300 advanced locomotives and related support services to Kazakhstan.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his congratulations to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan on this occasion.
