Economic Corridor Competition: Kazakhstan Will Purchase Two Ferries from Azerbaijan to Enhance Caspian Sea Transportation Capacity

KazAKH News Agency - The "Samruk-Kazyna" National Welfare Fund will sign two cooperation agreements with Azerbaijani companies during the visit of the President of Azerbaijan.

The chairman of the board of the fund, Nurlan Zhabayev, revealed this information at the presidential palace (Akorda).

Zhabayev said, "We will sign two agreements. The first one will be signed with AZCON Holding Company of Azerbaijan, aiming to further develop the 'Middle Corridor' and enhance its transportation potential. According to the agreement, both sides will explore the use of ferries produced by Baku Shipyard in the Caspian Sea. The second agreement involves SK-AIH Investment Fund cooperating with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), planning to be a financial investor for renewable energy, that is, green projects."

According to him, the subsidiary of the Kazakh national oil company "KazMunayGas" has reached an agreement with Baku Shipyard to purchase two ferries. These two ferries are expected to be put into operation in the Caspian Sea by the end of 2027. In addition, under the framework of the agreement with AZCON Holding, "Samruk-Kazyna" will also study the possibility of purchasing other ships. The first agreement amounts to 62 million US dollars.

It is worth noting that the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, met with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, at the presidential palace. Currently, the leaders of the two countries are holding talks, followed by the second meeting of the High-Level State Committee between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
