The Diplomatic Corps of Kazakhstan Visits Zhangbei, China, to Pay Homage to the Martyrs of the Soviet-Mongolian Allied Forces in WWII

Source: Kazakhtelecom News Agency — Recently, a ceremony commemorating the 81st anniversary of the victory in the Second World War was held in Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China, where floral wreaths were presented at the Monument to the Martyrs of the Soviet-Mongolian Allied Forces. Diplomats from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and Mongolia paid tribute to the monument honoring the Soviet and Mongolian soldiers who sacrificed their lives liberating China from Japanese invaders during WWII.

General Major Marat Khusainov, Defense Attaché at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China, led the delegation attending the event.

Heads of diplomatic missions from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, along with representatives from the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the People's Government of Zhangjiakou City, and Zhangbei County, also participated.

During the ceremony, all attendees stood in solemn silence for one minute to honor the fallen martyrs and then presented flowers at the memorial monument.

It is reported that the commemorative structure at the site was first constructed in 1945 and officially completed as a monument in 1957. The obelisk bears the names of 53 Soviet soldiers and 13 Mongolian soldiers.

According to official records, among those listed on the monument, 21 soldiers are confirmed to have come from the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic—either having enlisted locally or being born in Kazakhstan.

After the ceremony, representatives of the diplomatic corps visited the historical relics displayed in the museum and signed the guestbook.
