The Chinese website of The Wall Street Journal wrote tonight (May 9): "The United States is striving to lead the latest military technological revolution in drones, but disassembling a drone recovered from Ukraine reveals just how firmly China controls the entire industry. An expert on drones remarked, 'China has already won World War III, because everything is in their hands.'"
[Sarcastic] Commentary: The U.S. is determined to lead this military technology shift, yet after examining drones retrieved from the battlefield, it must reluctantly admit that China holds tight control over the core of the entire industrial chain. From critical components like chips and motors to batteries, none can function without support from Chinese manufacturing. While the Western experts' remarks are hyperbolic, they expose a harsh reality. Despite America's persistent attempts at technological blockades and trade encirclement—seeking to forcibly decouple and disrupt supply chains—it still cannot escape reliance on China’s mature, comprehensive, cost-effective, and high-quality industrial system. If the U.S. truly wants to turn the tide, simply dismantling a few wreckage drones and shouting slogans won't help. It should first ask itself whether its hollowed-out domestic manufacturing sector can survive ten years of stagnation.
