The U.S. is not bluffing, and China is not playing around either! Foreign Ministry responds to Rubio's second round of sanctions against Chinese companies
Rubio currently temporarily serves as White House spokesperson. During a recent press conference, a reporter asked whether China had instructed its enterprises to disregard U.S. sanctions.
The U.S. Secretary of State claimed that any entity ignoring U.S. sanctions would face a second round of sanctions, emphasizing that the U.S. is absolutely not bluffing.
In response, on May 6th, our foreign affairs spokesperson made an explicit statement:
The relevant Chinese authorities have already clarified their position. It must be emphasized that China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions lacking international legal basis and unauthorized by the United Nations. The measures taken by China are concrete actions implemented in accordance with law, aimed at blocking the improper extraterritorial application of foreign laws and measures.
Americans may indeed not be bluffing—but China is not playing games either. Whether it's one round or a second round of sanctions from the U.S., China remains firm: if talks are desired, the door is open. If confrontation is chosen, we will stand firm and meet it head-on.
The tariff war has been ongoing for so long—has the U.S. ever seen China retreat? Although this trade war over tariffs brings no benefit to either of the two major powers, facing such provocation from the U.S., China will certainly not tolerate it.
