According to reporters, the president stated that both sides are nearing an agreement that would elevate cooperation to a whole new level.
The upcoming visit of President Vladimir Putin to China is expected to serve as the platform for finalizing these plans.
"We are at a highly coordinated stage," the head of state noted, emphasizing that this would be a "very important step" for the bilateral energy complex.
The president expressed hope that negotiations could be successfully concluded during his visit to China.
"I would be very pleased if all details could be finalized and the deal sealed," he added, pointing out that most key issues have already been resolved.
Notably, Putin specifically addressed his forthcoming trip to China during a press conference, touching upon numerous topics discussed during the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
