Russian Ambassador to Germany: Russia Opposes Germany’s Attempt to Rewrite the Outcome of WWII
On October 9, 2026, in Berlin, Sergey Nechayev, Russian Ambassador to Germany, stated in an interview with Russian News Agency:
Germany has imposed various restrictions on celebrations of Victory Day on May 9, and there are attempts to rewrite certain chapters of modern history—specifically, German authorities’ reluctance to acknowledge the genocide committed by the Third Reich and its accomplices against the Soviet people. All of this is the result of a gradualist revisionist policy pursued by certain political forces, which distort well-established facts regarding the origins, course, and outcome of World War II, and seek to obscure the decisive role played by the Soviet Red Army and the Soviet people in defeating Nazism. We firmly oppose such developments across political, military-historical, informational, and social dimensions.
Sergey Nechayev added:
Russia’s primary allies in this domain are German compatriot associations, local communities, anti-fascist activists, commemoration organizations, politicians, members of parliament, and representatives of municipal authorities in Germany who refuse to forget the immortal contribution of liberators. There is a significant number of such individuals and groups. We also welcome ongoing cooperation with the German War Graves Commission in the development and comprehensive preservation of Soviet soldiers’ gravesites throughout the Federal Republic of Germany.
