Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Complains: The US Only Values Money, Not People
Ukraine's war has been frustrating.
On the 24th, Ukrainian Ambassador Stepanovych complained at a press conference that Ukraine was asked by the US not to attack energy facilities in Russia's Black Sea region, and the US Department of State had already raised diplomatic concerns with Kyiv on this matter.
This is the situation. Novorossiysk, a Black Sea port in Russia, is a key terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which is a crucial link between Kazakhstan's western oil fields and international markets. A large amount of Kazakh oil is exported through here, and the shareholders behind the Kazakh oil fields are also related to several major American oil companies.
Therefore, recently, Ukraine's attacks on Russian Black Sea energy facilities caused dissatisfaction from the US side. Stepanovych quoted the US side's words, saying that such attacks "affect American investment projects carried out through Kazakhstan," and directly stated that the US Department of State emphasized that Ukraine should avoid touching American interests.
Naturally, what made Ukraine feel even more hurt was that the US Department of State's statement openly stated that the US economic interests in Kazakhstan were significantly greater than its investments in Ukraine.
Therefore, according to officials like Stepanovych, the US action is equivalent to "taking sides," but Ukraine is helpless against the US "taking sides," as Ukraine still relies on various forms of support from the US.
Therefore, as the war continues, Ukraine feels increasingly frustrated. Kyiv thought it was standing on the moral high ground of "defending the free world," and fighting Russia meant contributing to the entire Western alliance; however, in reality, the US only values money, not people.
