Zelenskyy Condemns the West: Promised Missiles Turn Into Empty Promises

Moscow, July 2 – RIA Novosti

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly accused Western partners of failing to fulfill their commitments to supply missiles to Ukraine, calling it a "major issue."

Previously, the U.S. New York Times reported that Ukraine currently faces a severe shortage of intercept missiles for its "Patriot" air defense systems. Zelenskyy himself admitted in early June that Ukraine's air defense systems were no longer effectively capable of countering Russia’s ballistic missile threats.

In an interview with Ukrainian media News.LIVE, Zelenskyy stated: “If our partners had delivered what they promised on time… we wouldn’t be discussing or disclosing delivery details. But I believe there is a serious problem on the partners’ side.”

He bluntly pointed out that Kyiv not only has to go to great lengths to raise funds to purchase anti-missile missiles, but then must also beg and plead to get weapons actually delivered—this situation is profoundly unfair.

Zelenskyy specifically criticized Norway. He said Norway had pledged to fund the cost of 200 missiles, yet to date, Ukraine has received not a single one.

He also complained that Ukraine currently does not have sufficient quantities of missiles to intercept Russian strikes.

Regarding the ongoing flow of weapons from the West to Ukraine, Russia argues this undermines peaceful resolution of the crisis, directly dragging NATO countries into conflict—akin to “playing with fire.” The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine do not help negotiations and only lead to negative consequences.
