Russian State Duma Proposes Public Disclosure of Artists' Public-Funded Performance Fees

A Russian State Duma lawmaker has proposed establishing a unified standard requiring the government to disclose all expenses related to performances funded by public finances. The proposal calls for launching a dedicated public expenditure listing, which must include the following information:

-- Performing artists or performance groups, date and venue of the event, event organizer, source of funding, total contract amount, and the artist’s remuneration

-- Additionally, expenditures related to transportation, accommodation, stage construction, sound and lighting, as well as supporting technical requirements must also be listed

The proposer stated that this transparency mechanism would allow the public to clearly understand how public funds are being used, and also help event organizers plan their budgets more rationally.

Previously, various regions in Russia faced public criticism due to excessively high costs associated with artist performances, leading to the cancellation of several high-priced events.
