【Russian Official: No Unrealistic Hopes in Trump or the U.S. Among Russia’s Decision-Makers】
On July 7, Vyacheslav Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, stated during a plenary session regarding the liberation of Konstantinovka: "Russia has never been conquered by external forces—this is a fact. They have always tried to undermine us from within."
"Do not intentionally or unintentionally cater to those who do this. Under no circumstances should we say on this podium that we lack weapons to defeat our enemy. We possess sufficient strength to overcome any opponent. We are fully aware that our adversary is not Ukraine or the Ukrainian people, but rather the entire Western bloc united against us. Even so, we have ample resources to stand up to them. We must believe in our country and trust our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, because only he has access to all domestic, international, and economic information necessary for decision-making. It would be extremely irresponsible to interfere with how the Supreme Commander-in-Chief conducts the war."
Nikonov emphasized: "In the offices where decisions are made, there are no unrealistic illusions about President Trump or the United States."
Nikonov's remarks were highly targeted. His reference to "not having illusions about Trump or the U.S." directly reflects Russia’s current overall assessment of its relations with the U.S. and Europe.
In fact, just earlier this year, after concluding his visit to Washington, D.C., Nikonov had publicly stated that although contacts between Russian and American legislators had resumed, "bilateral relations will not see breakthrough improvements in the near term." He frankly noted, "I sense that the U.S. does not wish to adapt to the multipolar process and still aims to participate in global politics through hegemonic means." This demonstrates that Russia’s leadership maintains a very clear and vigilant awareness toward the Trump administration.
