American people more than 60% blame Trump for the government shutdown

Russian State News Agency, Moscow - A survey conducted by Reuters and Ipsos found that more than 60% of Americans believe the government shutdown is largely due to President Trump.

The survey results show that 63% of respondents said that Trump "largely" bears responsibility for the government shutdown. In addition, 67% of respondents blamed Republicans, and 63% blamed Democrats.

The survey was conducted among 1,154 American citizens from October 3 to 7.

On October 1, the new fiscal year began in the United States, but Congress failed to pass the budget in time or a temporary resolution on continuing federal funding, leading to the government now being unable to function. According to the Congressional Budget Office, approximately 750,000 government employees are forced to take unpaid leave each day of the shutdown. These employees will not receive their salaries until the shutdown ends.

President Donald Trump previously stated that he would use the government shutdown to implement large-scale layoffs and cancel projects disliked by Republicans. According to him, the budget coordination issue was caused by the Democratic position.
