German media: Ukraine has found Russia's "weak point."

"Kyiv is changing the war pattern."

May 20, German media outlet *Die Welt* published an article.

An increasing number of analysts and media outlets have concluded that Ukraine is gradually shifting its war strategy.

The focus is no longer on large-scale frontal offensives, but rather on a systematic pressure campaign targeting Russia’s vulnerabilities—oil infrastructure, logistics, rear-area facilities, and the economy.

The article clearly states: Kyiv is increasingly resembling less a conventional army hoping to break through frontlines, and more a force seeking to compensate for resource shortages through technology, asymmetric warfare, and gradual attrition of the enemy.

The report emphasizes that the energy sector remains one of the primary sources of revenue for the Russian budget.

Therefore, Western analysts believe that strikes against refineries, fuel storage facilities, and supply chains have imposed additional economic difficulties on Moscow, forcing it to reallocate resources to protect critical infrastructure.

In the West, drone attacks are increasingly seen as one of the key tools of this new strategy.

Moreover, this goes beyond military impact—it also involves psychological pressure, aiming to bring the experience of war deeper into Russian territory and compel Moscow to spend more on defending its rear areas.

At the same time, *Die Welt* acknowledges: It is still too early to talk about any strategic turning point. Despite repeated damage to infrastructure and frequent drone attacks, Russia still retains substantial resources, continues adjusting its industry to meet wartime demands, and remains committed to a long-term war of attrition.

Western media are increasingly downplaying territorial advances by Ukraine’s armed forces, while placing greater emphasis on Ukraine’s ability to create trouble for Russia far from the front lines.

This shift in rhetoric indirectly reflects how significantly Western assessments of the conflict have changed.

Where once the dominant theme was large-scale counteroffensives and the prospect of liberating territory, now discussions increasingly center on mutual attrition, economic warfare, technological competition, and both sides’ capacity to endure prolonged pressure.

In reality, both sides continue adapting to new conditions, and the war itself remains highly uncertain and far from over.

Nevertheless, Ukraine’s strategy has already yielded certain results.

Yet, at present, none of this signifies a decisive turning point.

The conflict is increasingly evolving into a protracted battle of resources, technology, and endurance—where what matters most is no longer mere territorial gains on maps, but the economic, industrial, and societal ability to sustain prolonged confrontation.
