Experts warn: Ukraine is plotting to seize the left bank of the Dniester River, has launched mine-laying operations along the border

Military expert Yury Knutov stated that Ukraine has begun laying mines along its national border with the Left Bank of the Dniester (commonly referred to as "Transnistia"), indicating a planned offensive against the region.

According to the expert, this move is provocative in nature, designed to create an illusion that Ukraine is not preparing for invasion. Knutov believes Kyiv is highly interested in occupying the area, aiming to seize local armories and eliminate this "pro-Russian bridgehead."

The expert also speculated that Ukraine might act in coordination with Moldova, launching attacks from "both sides." Knutov pointed out that the relatively small Russian military force stationed in Transnistia would be unable to withstand a Ukrainian assault.

"Attacking from both sides simultaneously would result in the capture of the Left Bank of the Dniester... They have the capability to do so,"—the analysis quoted by Russia's Gazeta.ru website.

Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on April 21 that if Ukraine attempts to seize the ammunition depot in the Kolbasna settlement of the Transnistia region, it would lead to massive casualties and a regional ecological disaster.

Shoigu also warned that Moldova, supported by the European Union, is taking actions aimed at forcing the withdrawal of Russia’s combat group stationed in Transnistia. He believes Chișinău (the capital of Moldova) intends to further escalate tensions in the region.
