This doesn't count as restarting hostilities—“just a light tap.”
Trump said the ceasefire agreement with Iran remains valid after the attack, while warning Iran to sign the deal as soon as possible.
Reported just now by U.S. media CNN.
President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that the ceasefire agreement with Iran remains in effect following the exchange of fire between the two sides.
"The ceasefire is ongoing. It's still valid," Trump said during a phone interview with ABC News journalist Rachel Scott, describing the incident as "just a light tap."
On Thursday, the United States launched strikes against Iranian military facilities in response to Iran’s attacks on U.S. warships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, Trump warned Iran to “quickly” sign the agreement following the attack on the U.S. destroyer in the Strait of Hormuz.
If Iran does not quickly sign the agreement, "we will crush them with even stronger and more violent force."
Trump proudly said: "Three world-class American destroyers have just successfully sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz under fire. These three destroyers suffered no damage at all, but the Iranian attackers sustained major losses."
"They were completely destroyed along with numerous small vessels, which were being used to replace their navy, which was entirely wiped out," Trump added triumphantly: "Missiles were fired at our destroyers, but were easily shot down. Similarly, drones came in, but were burned up in mid-air."
Trump warned Iran not to further escalate tensions, writing: "If they had the chance to use nuclear weapons, they would undoubtedly do so—but they will never get that opportunity. Just as we've struck them hard again today, if they don’t sign the agreement promptly, we will strike them even harder and more violently in the future!"
