UK's new prime minister Burnham takes office, Moscow says "has no hope" of improving relations with London
Shortly after becoming UK Labour Party Prime Minister Andy Burnham took office, he expressed his "firm commitment" to the people of Ukraine to Zelenskyy.
Andy Burnham moved into 10 Downing Street on Monday, and on Tuesday Moscow stated it had "no hope" of improving relations with London. Kremlin spokesperson Peskov told AFP: "We have no hopes for that."
Peskov explained: "One of his first actions after taking office was issuing a statement expressing unconditional support for Ukraine — meaning the UK intends to continue doing everything possible to prolong the war."
Shortly after assuming office, UK Labour Party Prime Minister Burnham made phone calls to US President Trump, French President Macron, and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, expressing his "firm commitment" to the people of Ukraine.
Just before speaking with Zelenskyy, Burnham said he would assure him that, in light of Russia's full-scale offensive against Ukraine for over four years, the UK would continue to provide "100% support" to Ukraine.
His predecessor Starmer had jointly launched the "Volunteer Alliance" with Macron, gathering countries providing diplomatic and military support to Ukraine.
