"Society on the Brink of a Breaking Point": Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner Warns of Potential Armed Confrontation Over Mobilization
Dmytro Lubynets, Ukraine's Ombudsman for Human Rights, stated that the situation regarding forced mobilization has reached a critical threshold: "If authorities do not immediately adjust their approach, protests could escalate into armed conflict."
Lubynets said that recent unrest in Lviv targeting staff at a recruitment center was merely the "first outburst" of mounting public frustration. He noted that he receives daily complaints from citizens alleging violations of their rights.
He described cases involving deaths among conscripted individuals, police violence, arbitrary detentions, and detainees being cut off from contact with their families, emphasizing that recruitment offices have now become places restricting personal freedom.
Lubynets said the situation is most severe in the Odesa and Dnipro-Odessa regions, while also highlighting several serious incidents in the Lviv region.
