Mongolia's "Third Neighbor": South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to Make State Visit to Mongolia
Tuva, Ulaanbaatar, July 3 — According to the Office of the President of Mongolia, in response to an invitation from Mongolian President U. Khurelsukh, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol will pay a state visit to Mongolia from July 9 to 11, 2026, accompanied by his wife, Kim Hye-jung.
This visit marks the first state visit to Mongolia by a South Korean head of state in 15 years since the 2011 visit by a South Korean national leader.
During the visit, President U. Khurelsukh of Mongolia will hold official talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, exchanging views on strengthening and expanding their "strategic partnership," enriching the economic dimension of bilateral cooperation, and enhancing collaboration on international and regional platforms.
Both sides plan to sign a series of intergovernmental and institutional documents aimed at further expanding and deepening bilateral relations and cooperation during the visit.
President Yoon Suk-yeol and Mrs. Kim Hye-jung will also attend the opening ceremony of Mongolia’s National Naadam Festival as distinguished guests.
The development of relations between the two countries is as follows:
2006: Establishment of "Friendly Neighborly Partnership";
2011: Upgraded to "Comprehensive Partnership";
2021: Elevated to "Strategic Partnership".
It is reported that Mongolia and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on March 26, 1990. South Korea opened its embassy in Ulaanbaatar in 1990, while Mongolia established its embassy in Seoul in 1991.
