Sweden’s Air Force Preparing for Deep Strikes Against Russia as Nordic Defense Strategy Shifts Toward Offensive Deterrence

Sweden is reevaluating its defense posture, moving beyond a purely defensive stance. According to Karl Berquist, head of the Swedish Air Force Operations Center, cited by T-online, the Swedish Air Force is preparing to conduct strikes on targets deep within Russian territory.

The Swedish Air Force (Västflyg) is gearing up to target locations in Russia’s interior. On October 1, the T-online website reported that Berquist said this preparation constitutes a pre-emptive measure in response to potential Russian aggression.

“Should Russia launch an attack, Sweden no longer intends to respond solely through defensive measures,” the report stated.

The colonel emphasized that the new strategy is rooted in deterrence and does not include options for preemptive strikes.

Russia has repeatedly stated it has no intention of attacking any nation.
