Key Minerals in Mongolia: South Korea Hopes to Continue Cooperation with Mongolia in Key Mineral Fields

Tonghao News, Ulaanbaatar, March 26 — The South Korean side stated that it will continue cooperation with Mongolia in the field of key minerals. A delegation led by Ms. Kwon Hye-jin, Deputy Minister for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, met with Mr. Ba. Dashpurleb, State Secretary of Mongolia's Ministry of Industry and Mining Resources on the 25th of this month, expressing its commitment to achieving this goal through the operation of the joint rare metal research center established in Mongolia with South Korea’s grant aid.

Mr. Ba. Dashpurleb, State Secretary of Mongolia's Ministry of Industry and Mining Resources, said, "South Korea has successfully implemented several projects in the oil sector. Currently, South Korea is jointly implementing a project to enhance standards in the natural gas sector with Mongolia’s Agency for Mineral Resources and Oil. The Mongolia-South Korea Joint Rare Metal Research Center has been established and is operating smoothly. To strengthen the capabilities of this center, both sides must prioritize and support personnel training, ensure standardization, and guarantee stable operations."

He also noted that Mongolia's Ministry of Industry and Mining has developed a draft list of key minerals and amendments to the Mining Law, which will soon be submitted to the State Great Khural for deliberation. The proposed amendments include multiple important provisions aimed at advancing industries such as exploration, mining, and processing. Therefore, once this law is approved and implemented, it will create favorable conditions for cooperation with third neighboring countries.
