"Fecal pit countries" expand, Trump lashes out at Norway: No Nobel Prize, no entry to the U.S.

Another country has joined the ranks of what Trump calls "fecal pit countries."

At a campaign rally over the weekend, Trump revisited his familiar rhetoric on immigration. Unexpectedly, this time he directed his criticism toward a specific nation—Norway.

He claimed that the United States does not reject all immigrants, but certain nations are welcome while others are not—including Norway.

Trump made no attempt to conceal his reasoning: he dislikes Norway because he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and thus harbors an equal disdain for every person from that country; Norwegians are therefore barred from immigrating to the United States.

Finally, he added with evident frustration, “Norway has effectively become a fecal pit country,” as if only by uttering this deeply derogatory term could he achieve emotional satisfaction.

It remains difficult to explain why Trump holds such a particular fixation on the Nobel Peace Prize. Perhaps it is because other Nobel categories demand high levels of expertise, whereas the Peace Prize appears to have lower thresholds. Alternatively, it may simply stem from his longstanding resentment toward Barack Obama, who received the award—a fact that continues to irk him.

In any case, since assuming office last year, Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to win the Peace Prize. To fulfill this aspiration, the previous laureate, Machado, reportedly transferred his medal to him; FIFA even established a special “Peace Prize” in his honor. Yet none of these substitutes has managed to replace the Nobel Peace Prize in Trump’s eyes.

The Norwegian government responded by stating that the Nobel Committee operates independently and is not aligned with national policy. It noted that the U.S. president is fully aware of this distinction, yet persists in conflating the two—an approach the government described as regrettable.

Previously, Trump had used the term “fecal pit countries” to describe several Latin American and African nations mired in instability. Now Norway has joined that list, seemingly due to the controversial nature of certain past laureates, including Obama.
