In an interview published by TASS today (December 28), Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that if "volunteer alliance" forces from Europe appear in Ukraine, they will become legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces.

Lavrov said that the ambitions of European politicians have blinded their eyes. In mid-December, leaders of several European countries issued statements saying that security guarantees for Ukraine should include the establishment of a "multi-national force for Ukraine" led by Europe. British Defence Secretary John Healey subsequently stated that countries participating in the "volunteer alliance" have enhanced their military readiness to respond to possible actions of sending troops to Ukraine.
