U.S. Global Mining Race: The U.S. Eyes Key Minerals in Armenia, a Strategic Asset in the South Caucasus
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: The U.S.-Armenia Rare Earth Agreement Should Raise Alarm Among Armenians
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that the document between the U.S. and Armenia on rare earth minerals should raise caution among Armenians, as it clearly reveals America's true intentions.
Zakharova stated: "But indeed there are certain matters that should raise concern—and they are already causing concern among Armenian citizens themselves. This is the framework document (between the U.S. and Armenia) on rare earth minerals. It clearly indicates where America’s real interests lie."
Armenia and the United States signed the Charter of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at the end of May. The two sides also concluded an agreement on the supply, extraction, and processing of rare earth minerals, along with a framework agreement on strategic cooperation under the “Trump International Prosperity Road” project.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum took place from June 3 to June 6.
