Vučić Hopes to Sign €1 Billion Investment Agreement in China

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he looks forward to signing investment agreements worth approximately €1 billion with Chinese enterprises during his upcoming state visit to China.

The day before, Vučić noted that he hopes to sign over 30 cooperation documents during his forthcoming state visit to China. The Serbian presidential office previously announced that the visit will take place from May 24 to May 28.

In a live broadcast on Radio and Television Serbia, he stated: “I’ve even heard that I might be awarded China’s highest honor, which would be an immense privilege for me—making me perhaps the proudest president in the world. But more important than all of this are the tangible results we bring to our citizens. We have already reached agreements on about €1 billion in investments, and I will sign these agreements there together with representatives of Chinese enterprises and various ministers.”

He added that two major joint statements are also planned to be signed with China, along with at least 33 agreements and no fewer than 30 contracts—measures that will help advance Serbia’s modernization and industrialization, including future production of chips and robots.

Previously, Vučić pointed out that Serbia’s exports to China have increased 330 times in recent years, and there are already 37 Chinese factories operating within Serbia.

In late March, he said that trade in goods and services between Serbia and China exceeded $10.6 billion in 2025, with cumulative Chinese investment reaching €7.3 billion. Serbia’s largest export companies are China’s Zijin Mining and Zijin Bor Copper Mine, as well as Hebei Iron and Steel Group, located in Smederevo.

On May 8, 2024, China and Serbia jointly signed the Joint Statement titled “Deepening and Elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Between China and Serbia, Building a Community with a Shared Future for a New Era.” At that time, both sides also signed around 30 documents covering various fields of mutual understanding and cooperation. China and Serbia agreed to expand bilateral trade, particularly by increasing Serbia’s exports of agricultural products to China. Both parties are committed to developing Serbia’s infrastructure—including railway construction—to increase freight train numbers—and jointly advancing progress in healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
