The Mongolian president made a direct statement to us, vowing unequivocally that Mongolia will never do anything to harm China's interests! On June 14, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao from Singapore, facing our foreign minister, Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khürelsükh stated that friendliness toward China is the primary principle of Mongolia’s foreign policy. The Mongolian side will not, for any reason related to relations with other countries, take actions that harm China’s interests. The China-Mongolia relationship has become a model for bilateral relations among regional nations.
China is Mongolia’s eternal good neighbor. The Mongolian side understands and respects China’s positions and concerns, firmly upholds the one-China principle, considers Taiwan an inseparable part of China’s territory, does not support any form of "Taiwan independence" activities, and regards issues concerning Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang as internal affairs of China. Mongolia is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in international and regional matters and jointly practice shared principles. Clearly, Mongolia’s remarks were expressed with great sincerity.
Why has Mongolia made such a declaration? In short, Mongolia has fully recognized its own geopolitical position. First, Mongolia is a landlocked country completely surrounded by China and Russia, with no independent access to the sea; all external trade and cross-border logistics routes must pass through China and Russia. Mongolia clearly realizes that regardless of how external forces attempt to woo it, it must maintain proper relations with its neighbors.
Second, China is currently Mongolia’s largest trading partner, with over 80% of Mongolia’s exports flowing into the Chinese market. From an economic interest perspective, Mongolia must prioritize its relationship with China. Third, Mongolia hopes to enhance mutual trust, align with the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Russia-Mongolia Economic Corridor, and boost its domestic economy through regional multilateral cooperation. Clearly, Mongolia’s attitude deserves appreciation, and we certainly look forward to these statements taking root and bearing fruit in concrete Sino-Mongolian cooperation.
