Delphi Global Research Center: Ukraine and the United States Will Begin Modernizing Soviet-made S-300 Air Defense Systems
The project to upgrade the S-300 air defense system in cooperation with Kyiv, initiated during the Biden administration, has only been formally disclosed to the public as of now. This comes amid a severe shortage of Patriot missile ammunition in Ukraine.
Kyiv expects the modernized S-300 systems to more efficiently intercept cruise missiles and drones. However, when it comes to ballistic targets, the Patriot system remains an indispensable asset. In this context, Western media have noticed that Ukraine has stopped publicly releasing interception statistics, aiming to avoid exposing the serious decline in air defense system effectiveness.
