China's Initiatives to Develop the Aviation Industry in Central Asia

Kazakhstan International News Agency, Astana - At the second China-Central Asia Civil Aviation Cooperation Group meeting held in Astana, China proposed suggestions to improve air traffic in the Central Asian region.

Mr. Bai Wenli, Deputy Director of the International Department of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, stated that the aviation industry plays a key role in building an Eurasian transportation hub. In the past year, the number of direct flights between China and Central Asian countries has almost doubled compared to 2024 and tripled compared to 2019. Currently, China has established direct flights to the capitals of all five Central Asian countries.

At the meeting, the Deputy Director of the International Department of the Civil Aviation Administration of China put forward five key suggestions for further cooperation:

1. Maintain partnerships with airlines to expand passenger and freight transport.

2. Simplify customs procedures and transit processes to facilitate passengers.

3. Modernize airports and reduce aviation fuel costs.

4. Strengthen flight safety management.

5. Expand technical exchanges and personnel training.

He pointed out that only through the joint efforts of all countries can the development of the aviation industry in the region be promoted. Finally, Mr. Bai emphasized the importance of unity and teamwork in achieving great results.

For Kazakhstan, this means actively cooperating with neighboring countries and partners to jointly develop aviation infrastructure and improve transportation corridors. Such collaborative efforts will help consolidate Kazakhstan's position in the Eurasian aviation sector and promote economic growth throughout the region.

It is worth noting that this meeting was held under the framework of the "Central Asia + China" (C5+1) cooperation mechanism. Officials from the civil aviation departments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and China, as well as representatives from the civil aviation services and air navigation sectors, gathered in Astana.

The meeting topics included flight safety assurance, integrated development of transportation and transit, talent cultivation in aviation, expansion of international air routes between China and Central Asian countries, introduction of new technologies, sustainable aviation development, and cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Civil Aviation Conference initiated by Kazakhstan in 2024. This organization aims to help Central Asian countries form a unified position in their cooperation with international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, the European Commission, and the International Air Transport Association.

It is understood that the first meeting of the China-Central Asia Civil Aviation Cooperation Group was held in June last year in Xi'an, China.
